BT Tower to Reopen Restaurant in Time for Olympics

BT Tower to Reopen Restaurant in Time for Olympics

People who are old enough will certainly remember the revolving restaurant in London’s Post Office tower, even though it has been closed for almost three decades. However, this is set to change, with the restaurant being redesigned with plans to reopen before the 2012 London Olympics.

Will this restaurant find the same success that it once enjoyed? Will the crowds in the city to experience the Olympic Games be interested in this restaurant and this brand?

This restaurant offers an experience that cannot be found anywhere else in London, or Great Britain for that matter. This will likely be a large part of the brand and perhaps even a part of the logo design. From the 34th floor of the tower, diners can view all 360˚ of London from more than five hundred feet in the air. The restaurant makes a full rotation every 20 minutes, giving people the opportunity to get the full experience without vertigo. This certainly makes for a one-of-a-kind supper for everyone involved.

Because this restaurant is offering a unique experience, every part of its brand will be related to this. BT is currently seeking a chef and approaching some of the biggest names in the British food scene including Jamie Oliver and Gary Rhodes. It should be noted that Rhodes currently heads a restaurant in another London tower, making him a prime candidate for the experience. While the original menu from the late seventies once offered then-favourites such as smoked salmon, beluga caviar, and jumbo steaks, these will likely be replaced with tastes and textures that please and entice modern palates.

There are currently several restaurants in London that are located at the top of tall buildings, including Park Lane and 40/30, which is in the famous Gherkin. All of these have found success in part due to their location. This is definitely a good sign for the new establishment. However, the BT Tower London brand offers a few bonuses that will sell it as a unique experience, including the fact that it revolves, offering every diner a superb and complete view, as well as a long and notable past.

The BT Tower restaurant originally closed in 1980 due to security risks after an IRA bombing elsewhere in the building. Although the restaurant has been used since then for private events, it will soon be open to the public, hopefully opening to the applause that such a well known landmark deserves. If not applause, the restaurant will at least have fireworks, as the building plans to hold a fireworks show during the opening night of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Although most of the details about the restaurant, such as its restaurant logo design and even the name, have not been released, the owners will most likely employ professional logo design specialists and branding consultants to help create a visual identity that is appealing both to UK residents and the many people from around the world who will be visiting during the 2012 Olympics.
