Eating local is quite the rage now, with farmer’s markets and roadside stands presenting a growing threat to normal food and drink venues such as restaurants and grocery stores. However, many traditional food establishments are responding to the threat by offering a wider range of locally sourced products.

Because few people in the UK are willing to take a company’s word as guarantee that a product is local, several organizations have stepped in to regulate and enforce standards as a third party. One of the best known of these is Food Lovers Britain. With a brand promising only locally produced products, this is a food & drink logo that people in the UK will definitely be seeing more of.

What does Fairtrade mean to UK consumers? While this was once a mark recognized and loved only by a small niche market, the Fairtrade logo is now present on a variety of formerly conventional goods and bought by a growing force of UK customers. As a matter of fact, Uk sales of fair trade products increased by twelve percent last year, which provided a better life for 7.5 million residents of developing nations.

Just when London seems to offer every type of restaurant imaginable, a newcomer comes along to fill a previously unrecognized niche. London’s West End soon will be home to authentic, Mexican food via American restaurant chain Cantina Laredo. This restaurant is set to open at Covent Garden’s soon-to-debut shopping and dining center, St Martin’s Courtyard. Luckily, the company is bringing with it a well-established brand that has a high chance of appealing to Londoners.
